June 2011 Newsletter

http://www.winesdownsouth.com
June is graduations, weddings and vacations. This month, we spotlight Douglas, one of the great cities not only in Georgia but the Southeast. It’s home to some amazing festivals that attract thousands of warm weather visitors, a gentle, progressive place that has plenty to boast about. Hall of Fame college football legend Bobby Bowden began his coaching career here at South Georgia College and Jennifer Nettles, half of the acclaimed country supergroup Sugarland was born here. But these’s so much more you’ll want to know about Douglas. Doc Lawrence has been a fan you years: “I came to Douglas as a teenager and have traveled back often since. Why? Because this is the genuine South where friendliness is the norm-the real deal for me.” Discover in Wines Down South why this is an ideal vacation destination for tourists from the four corners.

Doc Lawrence continues his heralded Civil War Sesquicentennial Tourism journey this month, reporting from Georgia’s Civil War cities of Dalton, Cartersville, Madison and Milledgeville, with trips to Marietta and Atlanta for the 75th Anniversary celebration of Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone With The Wind,” a visit to the museum dedicated to the book and movie located off the square in Marietta, some time with the Atlanta Lyric Theatre, a tour of the Civil War cemeteries there and the story of “The Great Locomotive Chase” in Kennesaw. A day at the Atlanta History Center with Dr. Gordon Jones and the magnificent Battle of Atlanta exhibition makes this month one of our finest productions.

Enjoy our new feature, (see Youtube video on right) an amazing video tour of incredibly beautiful Smyth County, Virginia.

Wines Down South solidifies an already close and mutually beneficial relationship with South Carolina tourism, (see photo of SC's Govenor Nikki Haley and our Anne Marie O'Keefe) gathering with top officials. Doc Lawrence takes readers on a journey to Gainesville, Florida, a canoe exploration on the wild Santa Fe River, a day at Cross Creek, home of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, and visits to the beautifully preserved North Florida cities of Madison and Monticello.

It’s June, children are laughing, love is in the air and vacations are waiting to be enjoyed. Wines Down South, the nation’s best online travel magazine, takes you on the paths that offer romance, adventure, culture, things delicious and beauty.
